This world is not my home…I’m just a-passing through

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE Pinterest?!  You can literally find anything about anything.  It’s like a crafter/DIYers paradise!  Can I get an AMEN?  I can spend hours just looking at all of the cool projects folks have created and shared.  Lately, I have especially loved all of the Bible journal ideas and prompts.  If you’re scared to dive in because you think that you can’t, just check out Pinterest.  Take an idea and make it your own…or heck, if you like it that much just copy it in your Bible.  There are TONS of free printables out there.  (ScribblingGrace has quite a few for starters!)

“For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”  Hebrews 13:14

While searching for Bible journaling ideas I kept seeing the cutest little campers.  I wasn’t sure if I could actually draw it, so I printed one out that I liked and traced it.  Yep…tracing is TOTALLY acceptable.  You really DON’T have to be an artist to Bible journal!!  I decided that I wanted to try out watercolor, so I watched a few tutorials online (Pinterest yet again!) and just went for it.  I was so excited with how my first watercolor pages turned out.  I actually used mixed media for this.

  1. Watercolor – I wasn’t sure if I would be any good at watercolor, so I decided to just pick up a $5 kit and brush from AC Moore.  It ended up being really easy and believe it or not it takes quite a bit of water before you end up with any bleed through.
  2. Brush Pens – I found a small set at Barnes & Noble for about $13.  They are double ended, so I’ve actually gotten quite a bit of use out of them.  In fact, they are my daughter’s favorite when she’s coloring with me.
  3. Acrylic Paint – I have TONS around the house, so this was a “freebie.”  And just like watercolor, the acrylic paint really doesn’t bleed through the pages.
  4. Washi Tape – Be careful with this one!!  It’s addictive, because the selections out there are many and every one of them are a “must have.”  A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E!  They are range in price, but just hit the sale bins and clearance aisle at your local craft store.

First, I traced the camper and did a little free hand with the trees, rug and stars.  I just used a black fine tip pen that I use at work.  They are my favorite pen/marker – felt tip.  Next, I decided that I wanted to highlight the passages that resonated with me, so I covered them with washi tape.  Washi tape is VERY forgiving and can be removed without ripping the page and the watercolor didn’t bleed through the tape.  Certainly not like your regular tape!

Photo Mar 23, 7 23 43 PM (1)Once my verses were covered it was time to attempt watercolor – YIKES!  I have to admit that the black pen did bleed a little when the watercolor touched the lines, so I had to be really careful.  (However, I think it’s OK.)  Watercolor does take some time to dry, so I just pulled out my hairdryer and put that bad boy on hot and LOW! — be sure that you use the lowest setting so that the paint doesn’t get blown all over your pages.  Once everything was nice and dry, I used my brush pens and markers to color the camper, rug and stars.  I did have A LOT of bleeding from the marker on the moon, so that’s where the acrylic paint came in handy.  I just covered that little mistake up.  🙂  Lastly was the lettering.  I would love to be able to do the fancy lettering and calligraphy, but I’m not there yet and that’s OK, too.

At the end of the day, this is my Bible and I LOVE it!  So, don’t be afraid to give it a try!

#ipaintinmybible…and my daughter does TOO!

Yep, that’s right.  I PAINT IN MY BIBLE…and I LOVE it!  I know it’s not for everyone, but I L.O.V.E. it!  I have always been an artsy kind of girl, but bible journaling takes it to a whole new level.  This is a great way for me to grow closer to God, and to be perfectly honest, this has helped me dive into His word again.  A must try for the visual learner…ME!

It’s also been a great way to spend more quality time with KG, too.  The first time she helped I must admit that the perfectionist in me almost had a heart attack…like, seriously!  The thought: I’m letting my almost five year old color in MY Bible?!?! It was H.A.R.D.  After explaining the importance of the Bible AND REALLY explaining that it wasn’t just an ordinary coloring book…I took a deep breath and let her go. (YIKES!)  I have to say that she did an amazing job.  Now she’s hooked like her momma and that makes my heart smile.

DIY Bible Journaling Tabs

I just recently started Bible journaling and I absolutely love it!  It’s been a great way for me to use my creativity and study the word of God at the same time.  More on that in a later post…

So, I love all things DIY – especially since I feel like I have a complete craft store in my craft room.  It’s kind of insane the amount of craft supplies that one person can actually have, but I digress.  I found this great tutorial by Lindsey Decor and grabbed all of my supplies out of the closet and got to work.  Super simple and super fun!

Music for the soul

my hope is youI have always lovedLOVED music.  I can remember sitting in my room for hours listening to my favorite cassette tapes (YES, cassette tapes!) and waiting beside my boom box for just the right moment to hit the little red record button…you know, to record the latest and greatest tune on my blank cassette tapes!?  There were so many times that I would just put on my headphones and get lost in the music.  It was as if it were speaking to ME.  Today, I still love to get lost in music.  Lately, MercyMe’s song “Even If” has really been speaking to ME – giving me words of encouragement that I need in just the right moment in life.

You see, we all have struggles and unfortunately life isn’t always what we thought it would be…full of unicorns, MUSIC and rainbows.  Instead, for me, lately it seems to be filled with storm after storm after storm.  But whenever I hear “Even If” I am always reminded that no matter the struggle I am not alone and there is always hope in God.  The storm is just a learning opportunity for growth and a reminder that it’s ok to lean on Him.  It’s a reminder that he will always provide the strength that we need to face the not-so-fun parts of life.  God doesn’t give us anything that he doesn’t feel we can handle.  I just saw a quote that says: “God gives his hardest battles to his toughest soldiers.”

So, if you are feeling like the weight of the world is on your shoulders…just remember that all you need is a little bit of coffee, music and a whole lot of Jesus!

Even If – MercyMe

They say sometimes you win some
Sometimes you lose some
And right now, right now I’m losing bad
I’ve stood on this stage night after night
Reminding the broken it’ll be alright
But right now, oh right now I just can’tIt’s easy to sing
When there’s nothing to bring me down
But what will I say
When I’m held to the flame
Like I am right now

I know You’re able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone

They say it only takes a little faith
To move a mountain
Good thing
A little faith is all I have right now
But God, when You choose
To leave mountains unmovable
Give me the strength to be able to sing
It is well with my soul

I know You’re able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone
I know the sorrow, and I know the hurt
Would all go away if You’d just say the word
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone

You’ve been faithful, You’ve been good
All of my days
Jesus, I will cling to You
Come what may
‘Cause I know You’re able
I know You can

I know You’re able and I know You can
Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone
I know the sorrow, and I know the hurt
Would all go away if You’d just say the word
But even if You don’t
My hope is You alone

It is well with my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

Say what?! Shut the front door, momma!

Untitled design

It’s time for this momma to take care of herself! GASP!! Whoa now, what foreign concept are we talking about here?? What does that mean exactly?? You mean it’s ok to be a little selfish with my time and focus on me and what I enjoy doing for a change?!

Copy of 1000px × 1000px – Untitled Design

Well, I’m liking that concept. So, buckle your seat belts and enjoy this not so crazy ride as I try to learn how to love being imperfectly perfect.❤️❤️
